The Lost Man, by Jane Harper
"The Lost Man" is an intriguing murder mystery, which in contrast to a locked room, occurs where the only boundary is a distant horizon. Jane has used the heat in east Queensland, to create a setting, every bit as treacherous and beautiful as the cold makes mysteries set in the arctic circle. Even more than in her first book “The Dry", Jane makes the Australian outback a powerful character in a story of secrets, family relationships, and redemption.
The story unfolds with spellbinding brilliance, which kept me guessing to the very end. As in her previous books, Jane’s characters felt as if they’d come out of the book to talk to me. Even more impressive in “The Lost Man” was her breathtaking portrayal of complex family relationships. I love this book.
